I Love Making all Types of Handmade Soap

Soap making is a journey that can surprise you in the most delightful ways. When I first started, I was drawn to the colourful handmade glycerine bars that smelled like a dream. Their bright hues and sweet scents were irresistible.

Nevertheless, as I learned more, I found myself wandering down the rabbit hole of traditional hot-process and cold-process artisanal soap making. Each method has its own charm, story, and purpose. I didn't want to choose just one. So, I decided to make them all.

This post is a little love letter to soap in all its forms. I'll share what I've learned about these different types, why I enjoy them all, and how each bar plays a special role in your daily routine.

The Colourful World of Glycerine Handmade Soap

When I first dipped my toes into soap making, glycerine bars were my absolute favourite. They are translucent, bright, and often come with amazing scents that make washing your hands feel like a mini spa moment. Glycerine soap is a type of melt-and-pour soap, which means you start with a pre-made base and simply add colours, scents, and sometimes exfoliants.

What I love about glycerine handmade soap is how easy it is to customise. You can create colour swirls, embed little surprises, or layer different scents. It's a playful process that feels like painting with soap. Plus, glycerine is naturally moisturising, so these bars are gentle on the skin.

However, glycerine soap isn't just about looks and scent. It's also a great option for people with sensitive skin because it's less likely to irritate. That's why I often recommend it for those who want a pretty bar that's also kind to their skin.

Hot Process Soap: The Craft of Tradition

After falling for glycerine bars, I became curious about more traditional methods. Hot process soap making caught my attention because it’s hands-on and a bit like cooking. You mix oils and lye, then heat the mixture until it thickens into a gel-like consistency. This process speeds up saponification, so the soap is ready to use sooner than cold process soap.

I enjoy hot process soap because it feels like crafting something ancient and real. The texture is often rustic and hearty, with a natural look that speaks of care and time. Each bar has a story, and you can see the swirls and textures that come from the process.

Hot process soap is also very forgiving. If you want to add herbs, clays, or exfoliants, this method handles them well. The bars tend to be harder and last longer in the shower, which makes them practical as well as beautiful.

Cold Process Soap: The Art I'm Still Mastering

Cold process soap making is the method that many soap makers dream of mastering. It involves mixing oils and lye at room temperature and then pouring the mixture into moulds to cure for several weeks. This slow process allows for endless creativity with colours, scents, and designs.

I’m still learning the art of cold process soap, and that’s part of the joy. It's a delicate balance of chemistry and creativity. The bars come out smooth and elegant, with a creamy lather that feels luxurious on the skin.

Cold process soap takes patience, but the results are worth it. Each bar is unique, and the curing time means the soap is gentle and long-lasting. I love how this method lets me experiment with natural ingredients like essential oils, botanicals, and clays.

Why I Offer All Types of Soap

You might wonder why I don’t just stick to one type of soap. The truth is, each kind has its own magic and purpose. Some days, you want the bright, fun feel of a glycerine bar. Other times, you crave the rustic charm of hot process soap. When you want something silky and smooth, cold process soap is the answer.

Offering all three lets me meet different needs and moods. It's like having a wardrobe full of clothes for every occasion. Plus, it keeps my craft exciting and fresh.

Understanding each soap type's purpose helps you choose the right one for your skin and mood.

The Journey of Learning and Creating

Making soap is a craft that teaches patience, creativity, and care. I’ve learned so much from each method. Hot process soap taught me to embrace imperfection and enjoy the process. Cold process soap is a challenge I'm still excited to master. Glycerine soap reminds me to have fun and play with colour and scent.

This journey has made me appreciate the art behind every bar. It's not just about cleaning your skin; it's about nourishing your senses and your soul.

Offering all types of soap means I can share this love with you in many forms. Whether you want a quick, colourful wash or a slow, luxurious cleanse, there's a bar waiting for you.

Soap making is more than a craft. It's a way to bring beauty, care, and creativity into everyday life. I hope you find your favourite bar, or maybe all three, and let them brighten your days as much as they have mine.
